Egypt Strengthens Energy Partnerships Through Strategic Bilateral Talks
Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi recently engaged in crucial energy cooperation discussions with Greek and Cypriot officials, focusing on expanding regional energy infrastructure and collaboration. The meetings centered on advancing the technical working groups established under existing memorandums of understanding between the nations.
In talks with Greek Deputy Minister of Energy Nikos Tsafos, both sides reviewed progress in liquefied natural gas cooperation, bilateral natural gas interconnection and trade, and enhanced exploration and production activities. The discussions emphasized strengthening energy infrastructure integration and leveraging both countries’ advanced capabilities in LNG liquefaction and regasification for mutual benefit. The officials also explored carbon capture, utilization, and storage cooperation alongside efforts to expand renewable energy use.
During a separate meeting with Cypriot Minister of Energy George Papanastasiou, focus turned to connecting Cypriot gas fields to Egypt’s infrastructure. The discussion addressed pipeline routes, environmental and regulatory approvals, and ongoing marine surveys along proposed pipeline paths. Papanastasiou praised Egypt’s integrated infrastructure and processing capabilities as crucial for securing affordable energy, while Badawi emphasized Egypt’s commitment to diversifying energy supply sources through regional cooperation projects.
