Egypt’s Technical Gas Services Company (TGS) has secured an international contract to repair and rehabilitate Lebanon’s natural gas infrastructure — marking a significant export of Egyptian state technical expertise to the Levant region, and reinforcing Cairo’s ambition to function as a regional energy hub.
The agreement, signed in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, tasks TGS with the restoration of a 30-kilometre, 24-inch-diameter pipeline and its associated facilities in Lebanon. The project aims to stabilise Lebanon’s volatile energy supply, which has suffered from years of infrastructure degradation and inadequate maintenance.
The contract was formalised between Egypt’s Petroleum Minister Karim Badawi and Lebanese Energy and Water Minister Joseph Al-Saddi. It serves as the execution phase of a bilateral cooperation agreement reached during Madbouly’s visit to Beirut in December.
Under the terms of the contract, TGS will modernise pressure reduction and metering stations and upgrade critical automated control systems, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. The scope also includes mechanical installations and the application of cathodic protection to prevent pipeline corrosion and extend infrastructure lifespan.
TGS, established in 2018 as a joint venture between Egypt’s GASCO, Egyptian FAJR, and Jordanian Egyptian FAJR, specialises in the operation and maintenance of natural gas systems to international standards. The company has operated the Arab Gas Pipeline since 2019 and is a key vehicle for Egypt’s strategy of commercialising its domestic midstream expertise across regional markets. TGS falls under the umbrella of the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS).
