Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources has launched a fresh licensing round, offering offshore and onshore blocks to attract new investments in oil and gas exploration and production.

The Ministry has extended invitations to international energy firms to bid on seven undeveloped fields in the Mediterranean Sea, three offshore exploration zones in the Gulf of Suez, and three onshore exploration areas in the Western Desert.

This phase of the Open Blocks Licensing Program (OBLP) runs from March 2 to May 4, 2025, with opportunities accessible via the Egypt Upstream Gateway (EUG) online platform.

The initiative aligns with Egypt’s strategic plan to enhance investment in its upstream sector, boost crude oil and gas output, and promote sustainability. A prior bidding round, launched by the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS) in August 2024, closed on February 25, 2025, featuring ten offshore blocks and two onshore blocks in the Mediterranean and Nile Delta regions.

The licensing program supports Egypt’s goal of drilling 586 oil and gas wells by 2030, as outlined by the Petroleum Minister in July 2024.
