Shelf Drilling, a UAE-based offshore drilling contractor, has secured an extension for its jack-up rig, Shelf Drilling Scepter, with the U.S. energy giant Chevron. The rig will continue its operations offshore West Africa for an additional year.
Built in 2008 and last upgraded in 2019, the rig is of the Keppel FELS Super B Class design. The contract extension, valued at approximately $50 million, allows the rig to remain in Nigerian waters until July 2026, following the completion of its current contract in July 2025.
The Shelf Drilling Scepter boasts a maximum drilling depth capacity of 35,000 feet (10.67 km) and operates in water depths of up to 350 feet (0.11 km). The rig also has accommodation facilities for 150 personnel.
This contract extension follows a recent partnership between Shelf Drilling and Arabian Drilling aimed at expanding their offshore drilling capabilities through the deployment of premium jack-up rigs internationally.
