The main opposition party in Chad has described the swearing-in of the military leader, Mahamat Idriss Déby, for another two years as evidence of democratic regression.

Ndolembai Njesada – the deputy leader of “The Transformers” – also criticised a decision to allow Mr Déby to stand in the next election.He likened it to being both a player and the referee in a football game.

Mr Njesada has threatened to set up a parallel government.Key opposition groups and rebel forces did not take part in the recent national dialogue at which it was agreed to extend Mr Déby’s time in office.
