Norwegian oil company BW Energy has announced a major oil discovery at the Bourdon prospect in the Dussafu Marin Permit offshore Gabon. Logging data and formation pressure measurements confirm a hydrocarbon column of 45 meters, with 34 meters of net pay in the Gamba formation, making it the largest discovery within the Dussafu license to date.
The discovery, made by the Norve jack-up rig, allows BW Energy to add reserves not included in its 2024 Statement of Reserves. As of December 31, 2024, the company’s 2P reserves across its Gabonese and Brazilian assets totaled 229.2 million barrels of oil equivalent, excluding its Kudu field offshore Namibia.
CEO Carl K. Arnet stated, “The Bourdon appraisal well reaffirms the significant resource potential of the Dussafu license. We are evaluating a second sidetrack to further appraise the discovery.”
The well is located 15 km west of the BW Adolo FPSO and 7.5 km southeast of the MaBoMo facility. This marks the final operation in the current Dussafu drilling campaign, which has resulted in four major oil discoveries and eight new production wells, increasing total gross production in the block to approximately 40,000 BPD.
