Libya’s drive to attract international capital is deepening its long-standing energy ties with the United Kingdom, as British companies signal growing appetite for the country’s upstream oil and gas sector, renewable energy market and infrastructure development opportunities.
Martin Reynolds, British Ambassador to Libya, highlighted the depth of bilateral relations built over decades of training partnerships, noting that UK engineers and technical professionals have long supported Libyan energy operations through institutions in Aberdeen and London. “The signals being sent in terms of Libya’s willingness to engage with international oil companies and to develop its oil sector are very strong,” Reynolds said, adding that British companies are receiving those signals and are “extremely interested in the opportunities.”
Drawing on extensive North Sea experience, UK firms are seen as well positioned to support Libya’s upstream revitalisation. Beyond hydrocarbons, the partnership is expected to expand into green energy and infrastructure, areas where Reynolds described British companies as possessing considerable expertise in planning and development.
