Global energy major BP has intensified its presence in Libya, spearheading a multi-well drilling campaign following the resumption of activities in the North African nation in 2024. The initiative targets multiple oil and gas formations, aligning with Libya’s ambition to elevate production levels to two million barrels per day.

Speaking at the Libya Energy & Economic Summit (LEES) 2025, Ariel Flores, BP’s Senior Vice President for Subsurface, elaborated on the company’s exploration strategy. “We have a robust multi-well program underway, and if successful, it will pave the way for additional wells. Our advanced 3D seismic data and cutting-edge technology will aid in well placement, ensuring optimal development outcomes,” he stated.

Beyond exploration, BP is prioritizing brownfield redevelopment, leveraging existing assets to enhance production. Flores emphasized, “Brownfield projects will form the backbone of our partnership in Libya. BP’s expertise in redeveloping giant fields and managing brownfields, particularly in the MENA region, positions us well for success.”

Industry conferences such as LEES 2025 play a vital role in fostering industry collaboration. Flores noted, “Our global partnerships are strong, and bringing them to Libya will yield positive results for the country. These conferences provide the momentum needed to unlock new resources and drive sector growth.”
