Angola Welcomes Game-Changing Oil Platform Months Ahead of Schedule
Angola has received a significant boost to its oil production capabilities with the early arrival of the Agogo floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO), delivered by China’s Cosco Shipping months ahead of schedule. The advanced platform will enable operations to begin as early as November 2025, substantially earlier than the projected mid-2026 start date.
The Agogo FPSO, with a production capacity of 120,000 barrels per day, will increase the Agogo Integrated West Hub Project’s total capacity to 175,000 barrels daily. The project represents a collaboration between Azule Energy, Sonangol, and Sinopec, with operations managed by Singapore-based Yinson Production under a potentially $5.3 billion, 20-year contract.
Notably, the platform features cutting-edge carbon reduction technologies, including closed flare systems and the first pilot post-combustion carbon capture system on an FPSO. These innovations are expected to reduce emissions by up to 27%, positioning the project as a leader in responsible oil production practices.
