Angola is set to become a global pioneer in offshore carbon capture technology with the deployment of the Agogo FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading) unit.
Recently launched by Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry in Shanghai, this state-of-the-art FPSO integrates offshore carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. Converted from a 320,000-dwt ultra-large crude oil carrier, Agogo FPSO will be stationed in Angola’s Block 15/06 West Hub, operated by Azule Energy.
Key features include:
- Daily oil production capacity: 120,000 barrels
- Storage capacity: 1.6 million barrels
- Greenhouse gas reduction: CO2 emissions cut by approximately 27%
- Emission-reduction technologies: Digitalization, automation, electrification, and an integrated closed flare system.
The vessel, expected to slash annual CO2 emissions by 230,000 tons, represents a significant step toward decarbonizing offshore oil and gas production.
