The Agogo Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit is set to embark on its journey from China to Angola’s Block 15/06 as part of the Agogo Integrated West Hub Development project. This addition is expected to significantly enhance oil production in the block by 120,000 barrels per day, with operations scheduled to commence in late 2025.

Completed six months ahead of schedule, the Agogo FPSO incorporates advanced technological features such as a combined cycle power generation unit, digital automation, and a seawater-driven turbine generator. Additionally, it is equipped with a vapor recovery unit to minimize flaring and houses the world’s first carbon capture and storage unit on an FPSO, making it an environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient vessel.

“The Agogo Integrated Project represents Angola’s strategic commitment to fostering technological advancements, local content development, and sustainable environmental practices. Several key components were manufactured within Angolan shipyards, demonstrating our dedication to strengthening local industry and promoting self-reliance,” stated José Barroso, Angola’s Secretary of State for Oil and Gas.

Block 15/06 is operated by Azule Energy in collaboration with its partners—Angola’s national oil company (NOC) Sonangol E&P, Chinese oil and gas company Sinopec, and Namibia’s NOC Namcor. The block comprises the Agogo and Ndungu fields, as well as the operational Ngoma FPSO.

Azule Energy’s CEO, Adriano Mongini, emphasized the project’s efficiency, stating, “The early completion of the Agogo FPSO underscores Azule Energy’s ability to execute complex projects effectively, maximizing the reserves in Block 15/06, particularly in mature fields, while ensuring cost-efficiency.”

Yinson Production recently held a naming ceremony for the Agogo FPSO at the Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry (Shanghai) Shipyard. Once deployed, the vessel will operate in Angola under a 15-year firm charter, with an option to extend for an additional five years. Yinson estimates the total contract value to be approximately $5.3 billion.

The FPSO is equipped with cutting-edge emission reduction technologies, including a closed flare system, hydrocarbon blanketing, automated process controls, and an all-electric drive system. Additionally, it features the first pilot of a post-combustion carbon capture system on an FPSO, collectively reducing emissions by up to 27%.
