Orascom Construction has announced the start of commercial operations for 500 MW of generation capacity at Egypt’s Ras Ghareb Wind Farm, establishing it as the largest operational wind farm in Africa. The project, which will eventually reach 650 MW total capacity, achieved this milestone six months ahead of schedule.

Developed through a partnership between Orascom, ENGIE, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Eurus Energy Holdings Corporation, the wind farm first brought 306 MW online in January 2025. Located along Egypt’s Red Sea coast, the facility is expected to supply electricity to more than one million households while avoiding 1.5 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually.

The achievement supports Egypt’s national energy transition goals, and the consortium isn’t stopping there. Building on this success, they’ve already announced plans to develop an additional 900 MW wind power project in the country, further cementing Egypt’s position as a renewable energy leader in Africa.
