Cape Town — As of August 30, the confirmed cases of COVID-19 from 55 African countries have reached 1,236,983.

Reported deaths in Africa have reached 29,423 and recoveries 969,039.

South Africa has the most reported cases – 622,511, with deaths numbering 13,981. Other most-affected countries include Egypt (98,497 cases), Morocco (60,056), Nigeria (53,727), Ethiopia (49,654), and Ghana (44,118).

The numbers are compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University (world map) using statistics from the World Health Organization and other international institutions as well national and regional public health departments.
