The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) revealed that it has established contacts with a number of victims who are currently trapped under the rubble of the 21-storey building that collapsed in on Gerard Road, Ikoyi.
This was revealed by Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, NEMA Coordinator, South West, at a press briefing at the scene of the incident.
He stated that some people trapped under the rubble have established communications with their relatives.

“Some of them gathered around the muster point in the building when it collapsed.
“Rescue operations have intensified, but with caution, to ensure that victims who are still alive would come out unhurt,” he said.

The unfortunate incident happened on Monday, November 1, 2021, on Gerrard Road, Ikoyi. The spokesperson for LASEMA, Nosa Okunbo, who confirmed the collapse, said a high rise building collapsed by Musliu Junction, Ikoyi, pointing out that LASEMA is on top of the situation.
Also, the Director-General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said, “Collapsed Building at Gerard Road, Ikoyi: The agency has activated its emergency response plan to the above incident.
“All first responders are en route to secure the scene while the heavy-duty equipment and life detection equipment have been dispatched.”
It is still unclear how many victims may be trapped under the rubble of the collapsed building.
