Shell’s companies in Nigeria awarded $518 million in contracts to indigenous firms in 2025, a major boost for local participation in the country’s oil and gas industry, with 123 Nigerian companies engaged across Shell’s value chain during the year.
“The payments show a strong support for Nigerian service providers in our operations,” said Shell vice president commercial Rohan D’Souza, commenting on figures published in the company’s 2025 Payments to Governments Report. “We see the development of Nigeria companies beyond compliance with laws. It is an integral part of a longstanding strategy to create a win-win relationship with indigenous companies,” he said, adding that Nigerian firms have long supplied technical and logistics services while building their expertise with Shell’s support.
The figures follow Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company’s recent launch of a $3 billion Contract Finance Facility with nine leading Nigerian banks, giving indigenous contractors access to naira and dollar financing to execute Shell contracts.
D’Souza also noted that Shell paid roughly $2.016 billion to the Nigerian government in 2025 through production entitlements, royalties, taxes and statutory fees. “You get an idea of the enduring partnership we have forged in the country since we set foot here more than 60 years ago,” he said.
