Aminex says the operator of Tanzania’s Ruvuma gas project has requested major amendments to this year’s approved work programme and budget that would delay first gas and push back drilling of the Chikumbi-1 well — changes neither Aminex nor the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation have approved.

The request follows a change of management at ARA Petroleum and a technical reappraisal of the Ntorya development by ARA Petroleum Tanzania, the operator of both the Ruvuma production sharing agreement and the Ntorya development. The proposed amendments include a significant reduction in the 2026 work programme and budget.

Discussions are continuing among Aminex, ARA Petroleum Tanzania, the Zubair Corporation and the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation to find a resolution that satisfies both Aminex and the state regulator while honouring the operator’s obligations under the development licence and the 2018 farmout agreement between Aminex, Ndovu Resources, ARA Petroleum Tanzania and the Zubair Corporation.

Aminex says it reserves the right to pursue all contractual remedies available to it to ensure the operator meets its obligations under the farmout agreement, the joint operating agreement and the development licence — including recourse to the parent company guarantee provided by the Zubair Corporation.
