TotalEnergies is moving ahead with work on Nigeria’s Ubeta gas field, a project designed to keep gas flowing to the Nigeria LNG plant in Bonny, Rivers State, and shore up the country’s ambitions as a major gas exporter.
Work at Ubeta, tucked in the Niger Delta, will involve drilling new wells and laying pipelines to link the field to existing export infrastructure. The gas is critical feedstock for NLNG, which runs six liquefaction trains and ranks among the world’s largest LNG exporters — meaning a steady supply from fields like Ubeta is essential to keeping the plant running at capacity and possibly expanding further.
TotalEnergies has operated in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector for decades and views Ubeta as part of a broader bet on gas as a transition fuel for the country. The project is expected to create local jobs, deepen local content development, and help Nigeria cut down on gas flaring while strengthening its position as a leading gas producer on the continent.
