Namibia’s downstream energy sector has reached a landmark moment with the completion of the transfer of Engen and Shell-branded fuel service stations from Vivo Energy Namibia to Nasan Energies Namibia — the country’s first privately owned, locally founded major oil marketing company.

The transaction, approved by the Namibian Competition Commission, follows an announcement made in September 2025. The divestment was a regulatory condition attached to Vivo Energy’s acquisition of Engen Limited from Petronas in May 2024. With the transfer now complete, Vivo Energy has fulfilled all associated regulatory requirements.

Nasan Energies has taken full ownership and operational responsibility for all divested sites with immediate effect, including fuel supply and customer service management. A complete list of the transferred stations is available on Vivo Energy’s website. The Shell-branded sites in the portfolio are being debranded, while the Engen-branded stations will continue under the Engen name during a transition period before all sites are progressively rebranded under the Nasan identity.

Vivo Energy Namibia Managing Director Johan Grobbelaar said the completion of the transaction fulfils the company’s regulatory commitment. “We have worked closely and collaboratively with the Nasan Energies team over recent months to ensure the smoothest possible transition at these sites. We wish Nasan Energies every success as they take ownership and build on the strong foundations that have been established at these stations,” he said.

Miguel Hamutenya, Co-founder of Nasan Energies, expressed pride in the milestone. “Nasan Energies is proud to stand as one of Namibia’s first privately owned, locally founded major oil marketing companies. We have taken full ownership and operational responsibility for these service stations and are committed to delivering the highest standards of service and reliability to our customers from day one,” he said.
