Liberia’s offshore petroleum prospects are set to come into sharper focus as marine research firm TDI-Brooks, working alongside GeoPartners and the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL), prepares to conduct a multi-client multibeam echo sounder and seep sampling survey off the country’s southern coast.

The survey, which is expected to run for approximately six weeks, will provide critical geological data to help reduce exploration risk across Liberia’s continental shelf, slope, and deep ocean floor — data that could support future licensing rounds and attract new investment into the country’s underdeveloped upstream sector.

TDI-Brooks’ research vessel R/V Gyre is already in Monrovia for the seep detection campaign. On completion of Liberia operations, the vessel will proceed to support CSA Ocean Sciences on the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, also known as the Nigeria-Morocco Gas Pipeline. That survey is being conducted for Morocco’s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
