Italian offshore survey and subsea services company Next Geosolutions has secured a significant expansion of its work scope on the Bouri Gas Utilisation project offshore Libya, with the overall contract additions — spanning its own survey and installation activities as well as specialised diving and installation work by subsidiary Rana Subsea — amounting to between €29 million and €36 million on top of the project’s existing value.
The BGUP project was originally contracted by Saipem — which holds a roughly $1 billion engineering, procurement, construction and installation contract for the initiative — with NextGeo brought in at the end of 2025 to provide survey and installation support services. The latest expansion, announced on May 4, 2026, sees NextGeo’s own survey and installation contract increase by €4–6 million along with an extension of operational duration, while Rana Subsea’s contract for specialised diving and installation services has grown by €25–30 million, including the exercise of options and the award of a new tender for further activities within the same project.
Under the expanded scope, NextGeo’s vessels NG Worker and NG Surveyor will carry out offshore touch-down monitoring operations using work-class remotely operated vehicles, alongside construction support services including the delivery of project pipelines during Saipem’s installation phases. The BGUP project itself is designed to develop and recover associated gas from the Bouri field on Libya’s Mediterranean coast, involving the installation of a new gas recovery module and a series of upgrades and enhancements to existing offshore facilities.
NextGeo Group CEO Giovanni Ranieri said the expansion validates the company’s integrated operational model in complex offshore environments. “The expansion of our activities and the increase in contract value confirm our ability to support leading partners throughout all project phases, providing advanced expertise in the fields of survey and construction support. This achievement strengthens our position in the international market and demonstrates the value of an integrated approach focused on technical excellence,” he said.
