Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held high-level meetings with Terje Pilskog, CEO of Norway’s Scatec, and Lei Zhang, Chairman of China’s Envision Energy, to discuss expanding renewable energy investments and green hydrogen collaboration, according to a presidential statement.

El-Sisi emphasised Egypt’s strategic ambition to become a regional hub for clean energy by attracting foreign direct investment into the renewables sector, stressing the state’s commitment to localising technology and increasing local content in major energy projects. He highlighted Egypt’s competitive advantages and geographic positioning as assets for exporting low-carbon products.

Both companies confirmed their commitment to deepening their presence in the Egyptian market and expressed appreciation for the government’s support. Scatec’s discussions focused on expanding solar energy investments, wind power generation and electricity storage systems. The Norwegian firm already holds a significant stake in the Benban Solar Park and recently launched the Obelisk project in Nagaa Hammadi.

Envision Energy, which operates across smart wind turbines, energy storage and green hydrogen, is supplying turbines for ACWA Power’s 1.1 GW Gulf of Suez wind farm and is partnering on a green ammonia facility in Suez, advancing Egypt’s renewable and hydrogen ambitions.
