Global energy data leader TGS has commenced the Ultra Profundo multi-client 2D seismic survey offshore Angola, marking the first such acquisition over the country’s ultra-deepwater areas in more than a decade. The survey covers approximately 12,600 line kilometers with the vessel Ramform Victory beginning operations in the first quarter of 2026. Data acquisition is estimated to be completed in approximately 100 days, with fast-track products expected to be available in the third quarter of 2026 and full data processing scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027.
The ambitious project targets a highly underexplored region and will deliver modern, long-offset seismic data critical for imaging complex pre-salt and top-salt structures as well as basin floor channel systems. TGS Chief Executive Officer Kristian Johansen emphasized that Angola’s ultra-deepwater margin represents one of the most exciting frontier exploration opportunities in West Africa. Johansen stated that the multi-client 2D program will deliver high-quality seismic coverage needed to unlock pre-salt and sub-salt potential in the region.
By leveraging TGS’s advanced acquisition and imaging capabilities, the company aims to provide comprehensive data supporting future exploration activities and significantly enhance regional geological understanding. The survey addresses a critical information gap that has existed since 2015 and is expected to attract renewed exploration interest in Angola’s deepwater acreage. The project underscores Angola’s continued importance as a key exploration frontier in West Africa and demonstrates the ongoing international interest in unlocking the country’s substantial offshore hydrocarbon potential.
