Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi has approved comprehensive investment plans for the Alexandria Petroleum Company and the Amreya Petroleum Refining Company for fiscal year 2026/2027, with significant capital allocations directed toward modernization and environmental initiatives.
The approvals came during general assembly meetings of both companies, with APC allocating EGP 10 billion for investments in the upcoming fiscal year. APC Chairperson Reham Mohamed highlighted that these funds will be directed toward several replacement and renewal projects, including a successful boiler rehabilitation that saved the company EGP 1.7 billion in new unit costs.
APRC is advancing its investment allocation toward several high-impact projects, including a Naphtha Improvement and Aromatics Production Complex designed to boost benzene and gasoline output. APRC Chairman Mohamed Sobhi announced that this project will directly contribute to stronger financial performance and higher net profits.
The capital plan includes significant decarbonization and energy-saving initiatives. APRC is improving furnace efficiency in the aromatics complex to save 1,000 tons of fuel gas annually and conducting boiler renewals expected to conserve 450 tons of natural gas per year. Additionally, the company is implementing a steam trap replacement program aimed at reducing carbon emissions by approximately 261 tons annually.
Minister Badawi directed all refining companies to monitor product quality through certified laboratories, ensuring that test results are transparently presented during future assemblies. The meetings were conducted via video conference with participation from Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development Kamel El-Wazir, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat, and Minister of Local Development Manal Awad.
APC produces 55 percent of Egypt’s national consumption of basic oils, 80 percent of special solvents including odor-free hexane, and 65 percent of bitumen products and heavy-duty bitumen. APRC, a pioneer in specialized production, launched Egypt’s first dedicated unit for medicinal-grade white oil in 1999 and continues to serve as a critical producer of high-specification petroleum derivatives, paraffin waxes, and alkylates.
