Libya’s National Oil Corporation has announced the resumption of full operational activity at Al-Sarir Refinery following successful completion of a major overhaul of the facility’s Crude Distillation Unit. The Arabian Gulf Oil Company, which operates the refinery, fed crude oil into the distillation unit at 10:53 a.m. on Wednesday, allowing the refinery to gradually rejoin the production line after passing rigorous technical tests.

The major overhaul was completed on January 21 in accordance with the approved schedule, followed by a comprehensive evaluation phase covering various systems and technical equipment to verify readiness for full-scale operations. Technical teams encountered unexpected challenges during the works, including harsh weather conditions marked by severe sandstorms that necessitated temporary shutdowns to protect personnel and equipment. Despite these obstacles, the project was completed without any reported safety incidents.

The National Oil Corporation emphasized that the successful restoration of Al-Sarir Refinery aligns with its broader strategy to enhance the efficiency of Libya’s petroleum assets and improve the operational reliability of refining and production facilities across the country.
