Mr Micah Jiba, a member of House of Representatives, has assured residents of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of adequate palliatives by FCT Administration to cushion the effect of ‘Stay at Home’ order in the area.
Jiba, representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency in the FCT, gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to him, the FCT Administration will ensure palliatives are distributed in all the six Area Councils, to reduce the stay-at-home- induced hardship during the lockdown, especially in the rural communities.
He said all hands must be on deck to win the war against COVID-19 pandemic by maintaining physical distancing and personal hygiene.
“As a member of the FCT committee on COVID-19, I want to assure people that the palliatives will get to every corner as we have witnessed the first distribution in Abaji.
“The virus is not a propaganda and no longer a rumour because we have seen it practically claimed the life of President Muhammadu Buhari’s Chief of staff.
“So, I want to use this medium to encourage people of FCT to be a little patient that the palliatives will get to all that needs it,” he said.
The lawmaker also urged the residents to, henceforth, stop shaking hands, touching and hugging, in order to stop further spread of the virus.
He said that hand washing had been proven by several studies to be the most cost-effective intervention in the prevention of communicable diseases.
“This virus is not a joking matter, we should endeavour to wash our hands regularly, use hand sanitisers and maintain physical distancing.
“We should try to stay indoors, and this must be followed religiously so as to contain the further spread and win the war against the virus,” he said.
He advised the general public to keep their surroundings clean and wash their hands regularly with soap and water as well as use hand sanitisers. (NAN)
