Ethiopian Airlines has continued to expand its flight network with a new thrice-weekly service to Gatwick Airport in London last week.

“We are pleased to announce that our London – Gatwick flights have commenced service today in a vibrant celebration,” the carrier says.

Last April, Ethiopian Airlines marked the Golden anniversary of its commercial flight service to the United Kingdom.

The national flag carrier’s inaugural flight landed at London Heathrow in April 1973 commencing with twice-a-week flight service.

Currently, Ethiopian operates a daily non-stop flight to London Heathrow International Airport and five times a week service to T2 Manchester.

The newly launched flight to Gatwick Airport is expected to complement the daily flight to Heathrow, taking the airline’s connectivity to London to 10 times a week.

UK’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Darren Welch said the flight will further strengthen the bilateral diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The flight service to Gatwick Airport on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday is being operated by Trent XWB-powered Airbus A350 aircraft.

Currently, Ethiopian serves more than 150 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations including 20 cities in Europe.
