Malala Fund in partnership with Jami Al Hakeem Foundation has Wednesday organised a one day mapping and design workshop on girls attendance and retention in public Primary Schools in Yobe state.
The event took place at the National Association of Nurses, Midwives Secretariat, Damaturu with the theme: “Increasing Girls Attendance and Retention in Public Primary Schools in Yobe state,” drawn stakeholders from education sector, traditional rulers and religious leaders across the state.
Speaking at the occasion, the founder of Jami Al Hakeem Foundation, Hasiya Nyako said, the Foundation in partnering with Malala Fund to promote access to education in the North-east states of Yobe, Adamawa Borno and Gombe states respectively.
Nyako stated that over the years, the foundation implement a lots of programme in different sectors which includes the education sector.
“Also work on issues relating to integrating the non-formal educational systems with the formal system, areas of protection, gender based violence, peace building as well as food security and livelihood.
“Most communities’ girls are not in schools, even if they are included, usually they don’t get to complete their education, they are left out of the system completely,” she said.
In his presentation, the project coordinator, Jami Al Hakeem Foundation, Mohammed Annur, said the programme goals was to break barriers that impede the girls child access to education.
Annur revealed that the objective was to work with community leaders and stakeholders to strengthen Community based structures to advocate for girls right to education.
“The following strategies such as advocacy and sensitization, community mobilization, capacity building on GBV, human right advocacy and policy influencing among others would be used in the programme,” he said.
