Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has achieved a significant milestone in its export strategy by sealing a crude shipment deal to a major oil player, signaling a strong push for economic growth.

The shipment, to be loaded April 9–10 aboard Delta Tankers’ 164,000-dwt Meltemi I, marks a shift from the traditional free-on-board model to an ex-ship arrangement—where NNPC oversees both shipping and insurance.

“This deal represents a new era,” said Panos Gliatis, MD of NNPC Shipping. “It’s a giant step forward for Nigeria’s export strategy.”

This success follows NNPC’s recent LNG exports to Japan and China, part of its bold strategy to become a global energy supplier of choice. NNPC is now forming a joint venture with Stena Bulk and Caverton Marine to develop a modern fleet of tankers targeting West Africa.

This comes as NNPCL intensifies operations to feed crude to Nigeria’s Dangote Refinery, having fixed two suezmaxes from the Stena-Sonangol pool last year.

In a final shake-up, the company has appointed former Bayo Ojulari as CEO, following a complete board overhaul.
